Very slowly progressive permanent weakness of muscles that move the eye and enable swallowing.
Investigation
Diagnosed by electrical studies of muscle action, and muscle
biopsy.
Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy Treatment
No effective treatment. Diet may need to consist of thickened fluids.
Complications
Choking, inhaling food, and lung infections (eg. pneumonia) may
occur.
Prognosis of Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy
No cure.
