Tachycardia Description
(Ventricular Tachycardia)
Normally the heart beats without any conscious awareness. If a patient becomes aware of the heartbeat, it is usually because it is beating faster than normal (tachycardia).
Tachycardia Cause
Exertion, fear or emotion, eating or drinking too much caffeine (eg. colas, coffee), smoking, diseases (eg. anemia, overactive thyroid gland, cancer, chronic kidney or liver disease), numerous heart disease (eg. paroxysmal atrial or ventricular tachycardia), and drugs (eg. thyroxine, appetite suppressants).
Tachycardia Symptom
Rapid heart beat and pulse, tiredness, and patients feel the cold more than normal.
Investigation
ECG (electrocardiograph) shows tachycardia and sometimes its cause. Blood and other tests necessary to find cause.
Tachycardia Treatment
Depends on cause.
Complications
Heart failure a possibility with some causes.
