Xanthomatosis Description

Skin complication of high cholesterol levels.

Xanthomatosis Cause

Excess cholesterol in the blood that settles in the skin.

Xanthomatosis Symptom

Small, fatty, yellow lumps that appear to be almost on top of the skin.Most commonly occur around the eyes, on the knees, elbows and buttocks.

Investigation

Blood cholesterol levels raised.

Xanthomatosis Treatment

Diet and medication to lower cholesterol. Skin lumps can be destroyed by cautery (burning) or surgically cut out.

Prognosis of Xanthomatosis

Skin lumps persist after cholesterol controlled.
